Paul Klee Inspired

The Kindergartners traced shapes on orange construction paper to create a portrait inspired by Paul Klee's original. We talked about cubism and use of shape and color. First traced in pencil, then outlined in ink. Next, we added oil pastel crayon and chalk. Then, watercolor wash in warm tones... and finally rolled tempera paint (also in warm tones.)
Molly, these are terrific! I'm currently doing some Klee lessons right now too. Can I ask - how much time did these take? (how many sessions?) It looks like a lot of steps, but they are lovely.
Thank you! It took them about three class periods. I set up stations to guide them through the process and allow them to work at their own speed. Klee is fun :)
I love your blog! These Klee faces are fantastic, I've done a lesson like this with my 4th graders studying value in tempera paint, but I like the kindergarten take on it and how you used all the different materials, too cute!
